First Day of School
What to expect and what to bring
Last Updated November 2024
Orientation Day is a great way to get familiar with how to get to school, settle in, meet some teachers and other community members before we welcome all families to the first day of school. Orientation Day will help children (and their parents!) feel prepared for the first day of school.
First Day of School
First Day of School for the Semester 2 - School Year 2024-25
Monday, 20 January 2025
School starts at 8.15am and finishes at 3.15am
We require all new parents and students attend our Orientation Day before the first day of school. New families will be asked to register for Orientation Day via an email from the Admissions Team. To be fully prepared for the First Day of school, please read our checklist below and all the information to support a smooth transition.
In the days leading up to the first day of School you will be hearing from the Heads of Learning Neighborhood via email.
Our teaching teams and currently enrolled students will be ready to welcome your child and help them feel calm and welcome on their first day.
This information will include details on what the first few days of the Semester will look like, program or schedule information and highlights as well other information relevant to your child’s learning. Our teachers put well-developed strategies in place to support all our new and returning students to feel organised and welcome.
Before the First Day of School, enrolled families will be invited to download the Green School Bali App, with key information including learning schedule, how to order school lunch, pick up/drop off information on Bio Bus, etc. All of this will be covered at Orientation Day. This is the time to get everything sorted for your first day of school.
A general overview of the First Day of School can be found below.
What to bring on the first Day of School
More information will come from your Learning Neighbourhood Head, but below is a useful guideline of what you will need to pack/bring on the first day of school.
Please ensure you (or your child) pack lunch, a snack and a reusable water bottle. Alternatively, you can order lunch from our school lunch provider.
Early Years and Primary students will need coloured and lead pencils, eraser, sharpener, pencil case and any other basic stationery items that they particularly like.
Middle and High School students need the same basic stationery items plus a notepad (noting that most course material is online) as well as a laptop and charger.
Please note that we have a ‘phone bank’ for Middle and High School students with phones being stored during the school day and returned to the student at the end of the school day.
No student in Primary or Early Years should bring a phone to school.
A backpack is an ideal school bag choice given the rugged nature of our campus.
You may choose to apply or send insect repellant and/or sunscreen.
Please supply a hat for playtime if your child is in Early Years or Primary School.
Primary and Early Years children should bring a spare change of clothes. Children can get muddy, grubby and sometimes wet during the course of the school day. They can store these clothes in their classroom.
Raincoats are also a good item to pack if you are starting in the rainy season.
Students generally wear flip-flops, sneakers, crocs or similar. Our classrooms are shoeless spaces so shoes that are easy on and off are recommended.
Cool and comfortable clothing is recommended as students often sit on the floor and get in the garden.
Check List for the First Day of School
If you were unable to attend our Orientation Day due to your arrival in Bali, please ensure you thoroughly review the information on this site.
Review any emailed information sent to you by the School/Learning Neighbourhood Head.
Please double-check the details on what your child needs to bring to school - supplies, food, water bottle etc.
Please organise your lunch order in advance, if ordering school lunch.
Please double check the information on how to get to school here, allowing for plenty of time to get to school, say goodbyes and drop off.
Ensure you have joined our Facebook Groups, read all emails and read through our Heartbook A-Z guide and other resources.
Our Learning Schedule & First Day for Students
The schedule for the first day of school and right across the first week will reflect a focus on supporting new and continuing students to get to know each other. Settling into the flow of daily life on campus and beginning to build relationships is the priority.
The schedule for the first day of school will look different across Grade levels and Learning Neighbourhoods.
Your children’s teachers and relevant Learning Heads will share more about the first day and other transitional support information before the first day of School. You can expect this as a direct email, which will come to you in the week before the first day of school for the semester.
The first day of learning
Our first day of Semester 2 is Monday, 20 January 2025 and school starts at 8.15am.
All new students will be welcomed by their teachers on their first day and will be supported to settle in and meet their new friends along with help to understand the rhythm of the school day and what is where in the onsite neighborhood.
NOTE: Now that your child is enrolled, please note that any absences need to be communicated to the School. Attendance@greenschool.org plus your child's teachers should be emailed in the morning or advance of any absent day. More details can be found in our Heartbook below.
